Bali is one of the world's most established remote-work destinations, with a deep community of nomads, founders, and creatives concentrated in a handful of areas. If you are thinking of basing yourself here, this is what matters.

Start with the visa. Many nomads enter on a visa on arrival and extend, while longer stays use a social or business visa arranged through an agent. Indonesia has also introduced longer-stay options aimed at remote workers, so check the current rules before you fly, as immigration policy changes regularly.

Canggu and Ubud are the two main hubs. Canggu suits people who want surf, beach clubs, and a busy social scene, while Ubud draws a quieter, wellness-focused crowd surrounded by jungle and rice fields. Sanur and Uluwatu are growing alternatives.

Budgets vary widely. A comfortable nomad lifestyle, with a private villa or co-living room, eating out daily, and a co-working membership, is achievable for far less than a major Western city, though prices in Canggu have risen sharply.

Internet is generally good in the main areas, with fiber in many villas and fast connections at co-working spaces. Always have a backup, such as a local SIM with a generous data plan, for the days the power or fiber drops.
