Rostarr's Monumental Mural Transforms Potato Head Beach Club
Korean-American artist Rostarr has unveiled 'Evolving Landscapes', a striking black and white mural covering 1,320 square metres of Potato Head Beach Club's façade during renovation work. The abstract calligraphy piece marks a significant addition to Bali's creative landscape.
Potato Head Beach Club has unveiled a transformative new artwork that wraps around its iconic venue. 'Evolving Landscapes', a monumental mural by Brooklyn-based artist Romon 'Rostarr' Yang, now dominates the club's 66-metre-long, 20-metre-high façade during the ongoing renovation of its famous teak shutter mosaic. The piece spans approximately 1,320 square metres, equivalent to five and a half tennis courts, creating one of Bali's most striking contemporary art installations.
The mural showcases Rostarr's signature visual language known as 'Graphysics', a dynamic monochromatic style of abstract calligraphy. The Korean-American artist is globally recognized for pioneering this distinctive approach, having collaborated with major brands including NIKE and The Standard Hotels, while exhibiting in leading cities from New York and Los Angeles to Paris, Milan, Tokyo, and Seoul.
Potato Head Beach Club opened in 2010 as an artistic vision crafted by renowned Indonesian architect Andra Matin. The venue's original façade, constructed from 6,500 intricately arranged teak window shutters, became an iconic landmark that welcomed visitors for over 16 years. This current mural project provides creative cover during the essential refurbishment of this distinctive architectural element while simultaneously elevating the venue's artistic profile.
This is not Rostarr's first contribution to Bali's creative community. Five years ago, he collaborated with Potato Head on the Sweet Potato bio bus, a joint project developed with Green School Bali. That earlier partnership demonstrated the artist's commitment to meaningful projects that blend commercial spaces with genuine artistic expression.
Rostarr's multidisciplinary practice spans paintings, sculpture, film, and digital art, allowing him to bring depth and technical sophistication to public installations.
