Digital Nomad Visa (Second Home Visa)
A long-stay visa for remote workers earning from abroad, with up to 5 years of validity.
Overview
Indonesia launched the Second Home Visa (also known as the Digital Nomad Visa) to attract remote workers and high-net-worth individuals. This visa allows you to live in Indonesia for up to 5 years without needing a local sponsor or employer. The key requirement is proof of significant savings or income. It is designed for people who work remotely for companies or clients outside Indonesia and want a legal, long-term base in Bali. The visa is relatively new, and rules may continue to evolve.
Duration
Up to 5 years. The visa is a single document with no renewals needed within the validity period.
Cost
Application fees vary by embassy but are generally in the range of $300-500. Agent fees add $200-500 on top.

- This visa is ideal if you have significant savings and want to avoid repeated visa runs.
- Foreign-sourced income is not subject to Indonesian income tax under this visa.
- You can leave and re-enter Indonesia freely during the visa validity.
- The visa does not grant a work permit. You cannot be employed by an Indonesian company.
- Consider consulting a tax advisor in both your home country and Indonesia to understand your obligations.
Important Notes
- This is a relatively new visa category. Rules, requirements, and fees may change.
- The high savings/income threshold makes this inaccessible to many digital nomads.
- Indonesian tax law is evolving. Future changes could affect the tax-free status of foreign income.
- Some embassies may have limited experience processing this visa. Be patient and persistent.
