Visa on Arrival (VOA)

The simplest way to enter Indonesia for short stays. Available at major airports and seaports.

Overview

The Visa on Arrival is the most popular option for tourists and short-term visitors to Bali. Available to over 90 nationalities, it allows you to stay for 30 days with the option to extend once for another 30 days. You can obtain it at the airport on arrival with no advance application needed. It is the fastest way to get through immigration and start your trip.

Duration

30 days, extendable once for an additional 30 days (60 days total).

Cost

IDR 500,000 (~$32) on arrival. Extension costs approximately IDR 500,000 and takes 5-7 working days.

Requirements

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from date of entry
  • Return or onward ticket (airlines may check at boarding)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or address)
  • Sufficient funds for your stay
  • Passport-sized photo (for extension only)

Step-by-Step Process

  1. 1

Arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) or other designated entry point.

  2. 2

Proceed to the VOA payment counter before immigration. Pay IDR 500,000 (~$32) in cash (USD or IDR accepted) or by card.

  3. 3

Receive a VOA payment receipt and proceed to the immigration queue.

  4. 4

Present your passport, receipt, and return ticket to the immigration officer.

  5. 5

Receive your passport stamp. You are cleared for 30 days.

  6. 6

To extend: visit a local immigration office before your 30 days expire, or use a visa agent.

Tips

  • Bring USD or IDR cash to the VOA counter. Card machines are available but can be unreliable.
  • Start the extension process at least 7-10 working days before your visa expires.
  • Using a visa agent for the extension costs around IDR 700,000-1,000,000 but saves multiple trips to the immigration office.
  • The VOA is single-entry. If you leave Indonesia, you will need a new visa to re-enter.
  • You can now also purchase the VOA online before travel via the Molina e-visa platform, which can save time at the airport.

Important Notes

  • Overstaying results in a fine of IDR 1,000,000 per day.
  • The VOA does not permit employment in Indonesia.
  • Not all entry points accept VOA. Check before arriving by land or sea.
